Safe
Streets is a campaign designed to make Lexington’s roadways safe for all users
– motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Safe Streets asks drivers to slow down, cyclists to watch out, and pedestrians to look up. All roadway users are encouraged to travel defensively – to be aware of their surroundings and others’ actions to avoid collisions.
There
are several simple ways you can get involved in Safe Streets:
- Engage in safe behaviors yourself. Slow down when driving. Use safety devices – helmets and seatbelts. Cross at crosswalks. Be visible. Always pay attention.
- Take part in a Safe Streets stenciling event. Follow @LiveGreenLex and stay up to date with #SafeStreetsLex on social media for event information.
- Host a stenciling event. Stenciling is a free and family-friendly outdoor activity. It is great for neighborhood associations, school groups, scout troops, and more. We provide the stencils, spray chalk and other supplies. Visit www.LexingtonKY.gov/SafeStreets for details or email SafeStreets@LexingtonKY.gov to request a stencil kit.
We
all play a role in making Lexington safe, so let’s pay attention, slow
down and respect the rules of the road. After all, there is a whole world out there.
